Girls Track: Pioneers run past Bedford in league opener

On a rather cold and windy day, the Pioneer girls’ track and field team pulled out a 99-38 win over SEC opponent Bedford High School. Pioneer placed first in all running events and all field events except the shot put and the discus.

Despite the weather, many girls performed very well with the following girls setting all-time personal records: Tiffany Cernej-Garcia in the long jump, Bendo Sompa in the 3200-meter run, Derin Adunbi in the shot put and Alexa Easter in the 200 meters.

Pioneer opened the season on March 25 at the Huron Relays at Eastern Michigan University.

he Pioneer girls tied Saline for seventh place with 25 points. Oak Park finished first with 60 points and Troy and Northville tied for second with 45 points. A total of 25 teams competed.

Scoring for the Pioneers were Britten Bowen in first place in the 60 hurdles; Libby Kos eighth in the 1600; Lakeia Harris sixth in the long jump; fifth in the 4x200m relay (Aida Bennouna, Triniah Johnson, Jayla Johnson, Shelby Hall); fourth in the 4x400m relay (Triniah Johnson, Alexa Easter, Jayla Johnson, Stella Weinberg); and seventh in the 4x800m relay (Anna Vogel, Alexa Easter, Cammie Dalton, Libby Kos).
