Lacrosse: Pioneers rout Bedford in league opener

The Pioneer boys’ lacrosse team opened the SEC league season with an impressive 22-3 win over Bedford on April 1.

After moving their league opener against Bedford to Hollway field due to the recent rains making Bedford’s field unplayable, a combined Pioneer lacrosse squad enjoyed the sunshine and warmth on the first day of Spring Break by defeating the visiting Mules.

Pioneer scored seven goals in each of the first two periods and never looked back.

The win was their first after two losses to quality programs.

Pioneer opened the season with a 13-5 loss to Rockford High School. Rockford led just 4-3 after two periods before scoring four goals in the third quarter and five in the fourth.

In their second game of the season, the Pioneers struggled to regain their initial intensity and momentum after a nearly one hour delay due to lightening and fell to Detroit Catholic Central 12-1.
