Girls Track: Pioneers enjoy big day at Westfield All-Comers meet

The Pioneers hosted their annual Westfield All-Comers meet on Saturday, April 8. After having to cancel the meet last year because of cold and snow, Saturday was a beautiful day to host a meet.

Athletes from 10 schools participated in this non-scoring event.

The highlight of the meet was an intense battle between PHS’s Britten Bowen and Wayne Memorial’s Anavia Battle in the 100-meters. Although Anavia squeaked out a victory, 11.53 to 11.58, Britten broke the PHS school record in the 100.

The Pioneers who won their respective events included Bowen in the 100 hurdles; Anne Forsyth in the 800; Anna Vogel in 1600; and Tiffany Cernej-Garcia in the long jump.

In addition, Pioneer’s 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay and 4×800 relay all placed first.

Other Pioneers finishing in the top five included Cori Griffen in 100, Tiffany Cernej-Garcia & Shelby Hall in 200, Jacalyn Overdier and Sydney Dawes in 800, EmJ Rennich in 1600 and 3200, Vanessa Woolley in 100 hurdles and pole vault, Jayla Johnson and Triniah Johnson in 300 hurdles, Derin Adunbi in the shot put, Lakeia Harris in the long jump, and Jayla Johnson in the high jump.
