Tennis: Pioneer impressive in tournament victory

Pioneer finished first in seven of eight matches to finish first on Saturday in the Pioneer Invitational.

The Pioneers finished with 21 points with Novi taking second with 13 points. Stoney Creek (12) and Clarkston (2) rounded out the field.

“I was very pleased with how we played,” said Pioneer Coach Tom Pullen.

Winning on the singles side were freshman Kari Miller (one singles), senior Kara Dickinson (two singles),  senior Emily Roopas (three singles) and sophomore Meg Goldberg (four singles).

The No. 2 doubles team of Riley Dickinson and Nikita Abbaraju; the three doubles team of Emily Jiang and Haruka Tanaka; and the four doubles team of Gina Liu and Athena Allock all finished first for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will host another invitational this coming Saturday and the field is expected to be a little tougher. Northville, Troy and Grosse Pointe South are solid programs and should provide plenty of tough competition for the hosts.
