Girls Lacrosse: Huron comeback against Canton falls just short

One thing is clear from watching the Huron girls’ lacrosse team on Monday afternoon. The River Rats are getting better. And Coach Hayley Peach has certainly noticed.

“We are definitely getting better,” Peach said after a tough 7-6 loss to visiting Canton. “I’m very proud of them and how can’t you be. They work really hard and as a coach that’s all I can really ask.”

The River Rats were down a goal in the final minute to Canton and had the ball in the attacking end as they tried to even the score. But a turnover gave the ball back to the Chiefs who were able to run out the clock and take the victory.

Georgiana Gunther had two goals and two assists to lead the River Rats. Anna Kochanek, Ellen Reed and Mairead Erhardt also scored for Huron.

“I thought we held our ground with Canton,” Peach said. “We have been working really hard on defense and I was very pleased with our defensive play today. It’s really getting better.”

The River Rats (1-3) play at Troy on Friday.

The next home game is at 5:30 p.m. on April 26 against Dexter.
