Girls LAX: Pioneer rallies to knock off improved Dexter

Dexter stormed out to a 4-1 lead on Pioneer but the purple and white rallied to take the lead by halftime and then held on for a 9-7 win over the improved Dreadnaughts on Wednesday at Dexter.

Pioneer went on a scoring run near the end of the first half to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

With the score tied at 7-7, Pioneer was able to get goals from Reagan Malcolm and Julia Hunter in the final 4 minutes of the victory.

Pioneer goalie Landon Harsch was the true grit to the grind-out victory in the second half. Harsch saved 8 of the final 10 shots she faced.

“In the four years I’ve been coaching at Dexter, this is the closest we have ever played Pioneer,” said Dexter Coach Taylor Haverty. “It was a great effort by the whole team. Defense stayed really strong against a solid offense.”

Pioneer returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday vs. Cranbrook at Hollway Field.
