Softball: Pioneers pull off sweep of Adrian

The Pioneer softball team defeated Adrian 5-3 on Wednesday to earn a sweep of the Maples in an SEC matchup.

The game nightcap was tied at 3-3 with Pioneer batting in the bottom of the fifth when Ava Seldin singled to drive in the go-ahead run.

Mimi Maixner earned the win for Pioneer. She went seven innings, surrendering three runs, six hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Pioneer collected six hits. Franny Schulenberg and Taryn Curtis each collected two hits to lead Pioneer. The sure-handed Pioneers didn’t commit a single error.

In the opener, the Pioneers grabbed an early lead on its way to a 19-6 victory over Adrian. Pioneer scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back.
After Adrian scored four runs in the top of the fourth, Pioneer answered with four of their own.

Maixner earned the win for Pioneer. She threw five innings, giving up six runs, 10 hits, striking out five, and walking one.

Freshman Maxine Mucha led the Pioneers with two hits in four at bats as well as four RBI. Natalie Marr scored three runs in addition to having three RBI. Pioneer was also solid on defense only committing one error.

Pioneer plays two on Saturday at Jackson High School.
