Softball: Pioneers’ win streak comes to an end vs. Chelsea

The Pioneer softball team came into Wednesday’s game with Chelsea on a roll, including a sweep of Huron on Monday.
But the Bulldogs haven’t built a softball dynasty on smoke and mirrors and proved that they still have plenty of smoke and power in a 9-1 win over host Pioneer on Wednesday.
Chelsea established control early on, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. They scored two in the fifth and broke the game open with three runs in the sixth. The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits.
Pioneer had four hits and scored its only run in the sixth.
Taryn Curtis, Mimi Maixner, Ella Markley and Franny Schulenberg each managed one hit to lead the Pioneers.
Pioneer hopes to bounce back with a game against visiting Skyline at 4 p.m. on May 8.
