Track: Pioneers boys run to 11th place at state finals

While the girls were winning a state title last week the Pioneer boys’ track and field team was representing as well.

The Pioneers racked up 17 points and finished in 11th place at the Division 1 state finals at East Kentwood High School.

East Kentwood ran first with 78.50 points followed by Rockford (62), Oak Park (44), Okemos (33), Salem (26) and Saline (23.50).

In the 4×800 relay, the team of Netunji Paige, Matthew Lieberman, Peter Shambaugh and Nick Foster ran a time of 7 minutes, 51.96 seconds to take seventh place.

Junior Tyrique Wheatley ran fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.83 seconds. Khance Meyers of East Kentwood won in 10.53.

Wheatley also sprinted to a fifth-place finish in the 200 dash in 22.12. Meyers also won there with a time of 21.27.
Foster, only a sophomore, ran third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:13.57. Rockford’s Cole Johnson finished first in 4:08.6.
