SEASON PREVIEW: Huron golf teeing up youth movement

Patrick Kelly has coached Huron golf for nine years and he’s going to have to do plenty of coaching this year.

“It will be a rebuilding year but we are young so we have the next 2-3 years to work with the same core of kids and then any newcomers who might join the action,” Kelly said.

“Focus” will be the key for the River Rats out on the links.

“We really need to focus on the short game this year and not give away the easy strokes,” Kelly said. “They have been working on this all summer and the improvement looks to be there so hopefully it transitions to a match environment.”

Huron went 8-4 overall and 6-4 in the SEC Red last season.

Top returning players are sophomore Karli Messer and juniors Joann Cho and Sienna Blazevski.

Huron opens the season on Aug. 23 against Chelsea.
