SEASON PREVIEW: River Rats volleying for another big year

Toney Cummer has coached the River Rats volleyball team for 16 seasons and volleys into 2017 with a talented roster loaded with seniors.

Huron went an impressive 36-17 last year with five key seniors back off that team.

Top returning players include seniors Molly Johnson (outside hitter, All-Region/SEC Red Honorable Mention); Franziska Duhr (outside hitter, All-Region/SEC Red First Team); Joy Chen (Setter); Kenna Spieles (Setter); and Ella Schuster (Libero).

Top newcomers include senior outside hitter Olivia Plagens.

“We have a senior-heavy team that should be very competitive,” Cummer said.

The River Rats home on the road at the Adrian Invitational on Aug. 19.

They will host the SEC Jamboree on Aug. 28.
