Ashley Mantha has coached the Skyline girls’ golf team since the Eagles first teed off in 2011. Skyline swung to the tune of an 8-2 record in matches, third in the SEC and seventh at Regionals last year.
The team was led by Jami Laude, who went to State Tournament individually and finished tied for sixth. Laude, a four-time Division 1 golf state qualifier and 2016 regional champion, is now going for the green at Central Michigan.
The Eagles have several top returning players to help fill up the scorecard, including returning varsity players Caroline Norton (senior), Tasha Potter (senior), Nikki Lama (sophomore) and Cammi Tirico (sophomore).
Top newcomers feature TBD. The Eagles have matches this coming week to determine the “starting lineup” for 2017. Mantha has her largest team in seven years with 20 girls (only six players can play a varsity event at one time) to choose from for playing time.
“We are excited to see how the newcomers make an impact,” said Mantha. “We graduated four of our six starters, including Jami Laude.
“The keys to our success will be depth (beginners and experienced) and a fun team atmosphere.”
The Eagles tee off on Monday, Aug. 21 at Timber Trace against Bedford and Pinckney.
