Cross Country: Pioneers’ Forsyth sets course record at Benzie Invite

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team split this weekend, with the varsity running at the Benzie Central Pete Moss Invitational in Benzonia and the junior varsity running at the End of Summer Invitational in Dexter.

The varsity competed against 16 other teams, finishing fourth behind Hart, Traverse City Central and Traverse City West. Anne Forsyth finished first in the race, setting a course record and also a school record in 16:50. Libby Kos finished second for the Pioneers in 22nd place, followed closely by Mallory Dawes in 23rd.

Rounding out the scorers were EmJ Rennich and Ella Ryan in 49th and 52nd place, respectively.

Also running were Cammie Dalton in 72nd place and Sophy Cunningham in 83rd place. There were a total of 127 runners in the race. Anne, Cammie, Libby, Mallory and Sophy all ran their best times ever, while Ella and EmJ ran their season best times.

The junior varsity ran in a race at Hudson Mills Metropark, where no team scores were kept. Finishing first for the Pioneers in the 5km race was Anna Vogel in 7th place overall, followed by Carina Sanborn (23rd), Lydia Valtadoros (27th), Alexa Easter (33rd), and Bendo Sompa (34).

In the 2600m race, Nina Beardsley led the charge finishing in 6th place, followed very closely by Triniah Johnson (7th) and Paige McCreadie (9th). All but one of the girls competing in Dexter had their season best times, with Audrey Shambaugh, Alexa Easter, and Naomi Veidlinger running their all-time best times.

The next race for the Pioneers is the SEC Jamboree #1 on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
