FOOTBALL: Gabriel Richard improves to 2-0 with rout of Burton-Bentley

Father Gabriel Richard rolled into Burton-Bentley on Thursday night and rolled out with an impressive 56-14 win over the Bulldogs. After scoring a 28-6 win over Bridgeport in week one it appears the Fighting Irish have the ability to rack up points in a hurry.

And they came in a hurry on Friday night.

Michael Engelhardt hit Andrew Kendzicky on a long touchdown pass to get the visiting Irish on the board early in the first quarter. After the defense held, Kendzicky returned a punt for a score and the rout was on.

Richard led 42-0 at halftime.

“It was a good win,” said Richard Coach Brian Lewis. “The defense played well. They didn’t score until the last 5 minutes of the game.”

Kendzicky had a huge day, scoring touchdowns on offense, special teams and even on defense after he picked off a Burton-Bentley pass and returned it for a TD.

Engelhardt threw two touchdown passes, including one to Charlie Falvey, who also had a touchdown on a kickoff return.

Senior Chris Hill rushed for two scores for the Irish and Samuel Peoples rushed for one in the win.

Richard plays at Macomb Lutheran North on Friday night. The Mustangs defeated Livonia Clarenceville 42-13 in their opener and played Bishop Foley in week two.
