The Pioneer girls’ cross country team traveled to Portage for the Portage Invitational on Saturday and finished second overall in the 44-team race with 143 points, losing only to the top-ranked team in the state Rockford (116).
Northville was third with 144 points and Traverse City Central was fourth with 200. Skyline was 10th with 365 points
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Anne Forsyth, finishing in fourth place (17:52). Also finishing in the top 10 was sophomore Zofia Dudek (18:41) who finished in 8th place. Also scoring were Libby Kos in 43rd (20:04), Anna Vogel in 45th (20:06), and Mallory Dawes in 51st (20:11). Rounding out the varsity were Ella Ryan in 122nd (21:12) and Alice Glab in 194th (22:13).
Skyline senior Chrysanthe Patselas led the Eagles with her 28th place finish in 19:42. Camille Kukor was 66th in 20:26, and Laura O’Brien was 82nd in 20:40 for the Eagles.
In the JV race, the Pioneers captured fourth place with 102 points, behind Traverse City West (61), East Grand Rapids (65), and Rockford (67).
Leading the charge for the Pioneers were Cammie Dalton in 3rd (20:55), EmJ Rennich in 11th (21:15), Carina Sanborn in 19th (21:41), Rachel Pacernick in 25th (21:58), and Sarah Baybeck in 45th (22:20). Next up for the Pioneers is the River Rat Invitational on Friday, October 1
