Golf: First-round of state finals completed

Two Pioneer golfers teed it up on Friday in the first round of the Division 1 MHSAA state finals on The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.

Pioneer’s Amaya Melendez fired an 80 while teammate Katy-Mina Lee shot an 83.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Anika Dy of Traverse City West fired a first-round best 69.

In Division 4 at Forest Akers East on the campus of Michigan State University, Greenhills fired a team score of 414 to finish in the 15th place. The scorecard reads Aarushi Ganguly (91) Euna Lee (95), Augie Guo (112), Jamie Todd (116) and Phoebe Kim (123).

Almont will head into round two in first place with a team score of 340, one stroke better than Jackson Lumen Christi.

Father Gabriel Richard’s Julia Heegan fired a 94 on the day.

Three golfers are atop the leaderboard at 79.
