On the Calendar: Busy week for high school sports

The local football and soccer teams are done for the season. Tennis and golf have packed up the balls and sticks they use until the spring. But there are some sports swill swimming along and this week offers plenty of excitement for high school sports fans…here is a quick rundown. Time to massage your diary and get in on the fun:

Volleyball

Father Gabriel Richard will line up with Catholic League rival Dearborn Divine Child on Wednesday for a Division 2 District semifinal match. The Fighting Irish, who swept Dearborn Heights Robichaud 3-0 in Monday’s quarterfinal, will serve things up at 5 p.m. at FGR.
The finals are at 6 p.m. on Friday also at FGR.

Huron HS is the place to be Wednesday night for a double-header of volleyball action.
At 5:30 p.m., host Huron will play Pinckney in the first of two semifinals.
At 7 p.m., Skyline will face Dexter in the second semifinal in a rematch of last week’s five-set thriller in Dexter.
The finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Swimming

Skyline, Pioneer and Huron will swim in the SEC Red Division conference meet at Saline HS on both Friday and Saturday.

Cross Country

The best in the state will meet at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday. Pioneer and Skyline are sending both boys and girls teams to the MHSAA state finals in Brooklyn. Father Gabriel Richard’s girls’ team will compete in the Division 2 race.
Here is a breakdown of the starting times:

1:30 pm Division 2 Girls
2:10 pm Division 1 Girls
2:50 pm Division 2 Boys
3:30 pm Division 1 Boys
