Girls Basketball: Pioneers dribble past visiting Wyandotte

The Pioneer girls’ basketball team opened the season on Thursday night with an impressive and gutsy 47-42 win over visiting Wyandotte Roosevelt.

The Pioneers and Bears played a tight first half with the score 9-9 after the first quarter and Wyandotte leading 18-16 at halftime. But the Pioneers switched gears in the second half and the visitors couldn’t keep up. Pioneer outscored Wyandotte 11-8 in the third quarter and 20-16 in the fourth quarter.

Asaria Turman had a huge game for the Pioneers, leading the way with a game-high 21-point performance. Junior point guard Whitney Gallagher chipped in with 11 points.

The undefeated Pioneers travel to Howell on Dec 5 for a non-league game.
