Solar Open House and Tour Sunday, Dec. 10

If you have ever wondered whether solar is feasible at your place of worship, come to the Solar Open House and Tour Sunday, Dec. 10. This event, hosted at the Campus Chapel, 1236 Washtenaw Court in Ann Arbor, will share one congregation’s approach to offsetting 100 percent of its electricity usage through solar energy.

Attendees will learn the process of assessing whether solar photovoltaic (PV) is feasible at their houses of worship, as well as the first steps for getting started with a solar project. A broader understanding of potential funding models for financing a solar installation will also be a goal of this event, especially those financing approaches that are most applicable for Ann Arbor area houses of worship.

The Solar Faithful program was formed to assist houses of worship in the Ann Arbor area in moving toward energy independence. This program is a partnership between the City of Ann Arbor and Michigan Interfaith Power & Light.

The City of Ann Arbor is committed to significantly reducing its carbon emissions by encouraging local building owners to use energy wisely and invest in renewable energy. To meet its goal of generating 2.4 Megawatts of solar energy each year — and as part of the Department of Energy’s SunShot Prize: Solar in Your Community challenge — the city is looking for houses of worship to join the effort.
