Girls Basketball: Huron too much for Skyline in SEC showdown

 
 

Michaela Glenn hit a triple in the early minutes of the first quarter to give the visiting Huron girls’ basketball team a 5-0 lead and the talented River Rats never looked back in a 64-27 win over host Skyline on Monday night in a makeup game from Friday.

Huron built a 23-8 first-quarter lead and 45-18 halftime lead. The visitors led 55-22 after three.

After Lauren Courtright got the hosts on the board, a short jumper by Alexa Lyon gave Huron an 11-2 lead with 4:40 left in the first period. A triple from the wing by Jadyn Smith pushed the River Rats lead to 14-2 and a three-point play by Reeya Patel made it 19-4. A jumper by Huron’s Siena Smith gave Huron a 22-6 advantage.

In the second quarter, a triple by Afua Nkansah-Andoh gave Huron a 30-10 lead and a three-point play by Shamim Wambere pushed it to 33-10 with 5:23 left in the half. Huron’s Michaela Glenn gave Huron a 36-10 lead.

Skyline’s Janee Faulkner turned a layup into two points to make it 41-18.
