U-M hosting two developmental field hockey workshops on Friday

USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce the “Technical Skills Workshop.” This three-hour workshop will be held at the University of Michigan on Friday, May 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. The lead Coach Educator will be the Director of Coach Education & Learning, Craig Parnham and Assistant Coach, Trained Coach Educator and 1996 Olympian, Ryan Langford.

As the game of field hockey evolves, so do the skills required to play. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to focus on the correct teaching of the key technical skills necessary to succeed in preparation for the upcoming season. It’s also a great way to network and collaborate with fellow coaches. Coaches of all levels are welcome and will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

The focus of this workshop will be on teaching skills in a developmentally-appropriate way. Technical instruction will include basic grips, detecting and correcting errors, ball control, passing and receiving, forehand and backhand skills, aerials, and more. New and experienced head and assistant coaches of youth, club, high school and collegiate athletes will be well-prepared to take their athletes and teams to the next level.

Price will be $65 for members and $85 for non-members

Participants in the “Technical Skills Workshop” will receive a certificate of participation that stays current as long as your Coach Membership remains active. This is the first of USA Field Hockey’s new “Workshop Series,” which will become part of the Coach Education Pathway. USA Field Hockey is committed to providing coaches with ongoing quality Coach Education that is accessible, affordable and that includes best practices to deliver a player-centered and positive development experience.

GOAL SCORING WORKSHOP

USA Field Hockey also will host a “Goal Scoring Workshop,” a new coach education offering. This three-hour workshop will be held at the University of Michigan on Friday, May 18 from 1:00-4:00 pm. The lead Coach Educator will be the Director of Coach Education & Learning, Craig Parnham and Assistant Coach, Trained Coach Educator and 1996 Olympian, Ryan Langford.

The newly developed Goal Scoring Workshop is a further addition to the sport specific skills workshop series that form part of the USAFH Coach Education Program. The focus of this newly developed Goal Scoring workshop will be on teaching skills in a developmentally-appropriate way.

The Goal Scoring workshop will identify and teach the key skills required to help coaches develop effective goal scorers. The workshop will include a variety of specific game related individual skills as well as providing practice examples that will highlight some of the tactical considerations and decisions teams and individuals are presented with in the attacking circle.

Technical instruction will include different types of shooting techniques, positioning around the goal, rebounding skills, and much more. New and experienced head and assistant coaches of youth, club, high school and collegiate athletes will be well-prepared to take their athletes and teams to the next level.
