Field Hockey: Pioneers return from Grand Rapids with a 6-0 victory

 
 

The Pioneer field hockey team hit the road last Thursday and they didn’t suffer any ill effects from the long ride to Grand Rapids.

The Pioneers scored an impressive 6-0 shutout victory over Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central HS in a dominating performance.

Senior Hazel Magoon got the visitors rolling to make it 1-0. At 12:23 in the first half, freshman May Flanders made the score 2-0. At 3:08 in the first half, senior Andie Tappanden gave Pioneer a 3-0 advantage.

The first half ended on a penalty corner with junior Serena Brimacombe tipping a corner shot from senior Rachel Ruttenberg into the net with on time on the clock to “tip” the lead to 4-0 at halftime.

The offense went right back to work in the second half with senior Sam Kass scoring at 28:20 to make it 5-0.

At 4:21 in the second half, junior Helen Brush put the Pioneers ahead 6-0.
The game ended like the first half with two Pioneer penalty corners with no time on the clock.

The Pioneers had 15 corners to Forest Hills’ four corners.
