Girls Lax: Pioneers fall to Northville in regional final


The Pioneer girls’ lacrosse team lost 13-12 to Northville in a D-1 state regional final on Friday at Novi High School.

The Pioneers, who knocked out Northville last year, fell behind 10-4. Northville scored on 11 of 12 shots in the first half.

Northville (15-3) advanced to the state semifinals where the Mustangs will face Rockford at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday in East Lansing.

Pioneer (9-11-1) trailed 11-5 at halftime.

The Pioneers scored five consecutive goals to get back into the game and trailed 12-10. But the Mustangs were able to hold on in the end.

Karleigh Marable finished with a team-high seven goals for the Pioneers. Davney Holley had three goals and Celia Ayers scored twice.

Pioneer advanced to the regional final with a 13-8 win over Saline.

Senior Reagan Malcolm led the team with 4 goals and 2 assists. Sophomore Julia Hunter added 3 goals and Senior Davney Holley chipped in 2 goals and an assist. The scoring was rounded out by Karleigh Marable (2 goals), Danielle Armstrong (1 goal), Quinn Moffett (1 goal), and Tess Yuhas (1 assist).
