Cross Country: Pioneer girls finish first at Lake Erie Regionals

 

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team finished two “steps” ahead of Saline on Saturday to finish in first place at the Division 1 Region 5 race at Lake Erie Metropark and stamp their ticket for the state finals.

Led by Anne Forsyth and Zofia Dudek, the Pioneers finished with 49 points, two better than the second-place Hornets. In a show of strength for the SEC Red Division, Bedford ran third (76) to also qualify for the state finals on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Southgate Anderson was fourth (105), Monroe was fifth (190) and Dearborn sixth (230) in the 17-team field.

Forsyth, a senior, placed second overall in 18:09.0 with her teammate, Dudek, a sophomore, in third overall in 18:52.1. Saline’s Jessi Larson was first overall in 17:50.9.

Anna Vogel, only a sophomore, cracked the top 10 in the race with her eighth-place finish time of 19:24.0.

The two remaining scorers for the Pioneers finished among the top 20 in the race. Senior Elizabeth Kos crossed the line 19:55.2 to finish 17th overall while junior Mallory Dawes finished 19th in 19:56.6.

Also running for the Pioneers were freshman Alice Glab (28th, 20:33.9) and junior Ella Ryan (29th, 20:37.3).
