November meetings scheduled to discuss new solar ordinance

At the Oct. 19 Ann Arbor City Council meeting, the City Council postponed, until Jan. 16, 2018, consideration of a proposed ordinance to regulate ground-mounted solar panels. During this postponement, public meetings are scheduled to present the draft ordinance and to gather feedback.

Each of the meetings are 7–8:30 p.m.:

  • Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, Ann Arbor Senior Center main activity room, 1320 Baldwin Ave., Ann Arbor 48104.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, Ann Arbor District Library Westgate Branch, 2503 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor 48103.
  • Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, Clague Middle School media center, 2616 Nixon Road, Ann Arbor 48105.

The proposed ordinance will create a new section in Chapter 55, which will be known as Section 5:83 (Solar Energy Systems). This section will add definitions and requirements for ground-based Solar Energy Systems located in single- or two-family districts or associated with single-family uses in the R3 (townhouse) or R4 (multiple family) zoning districts.
