Huron established control from the opening tip, using their great speed, quickness and toughness, and cruised to an easy 71-41 win over Woodhaven in the Ann Arbor Basketball Classic on Saturday at Skyline.
Huron was led in scoring by senior Lewis Willis, who scored all of his game-high 21 points in the first half. Avery Lewis scored 10, LJ Dewolf added nine points, David Olawale eight and Arthur Caldwell seven for the River Rats.
The River Rats came out flying and took control early on in this non-league matchup. A triple by Dewolf gave Huron an early 9-2 lead and they built on it from there leading 19-8 after one quarter.
It only got worse for the Warriors in the second quarter.
Lewis scored off the break to make it 23-11 with 4:52 to play in the second quarter. A dunk by Lewis slammed the lead to 27-11 and a triple by Willis made it 30-11.
Huron led 34-12 at halftime.
A jumper by Lewis gave Huron a 41-16 lead with 4:20 play in the third quarter. A nice drive to the hoop and layup by Devin Womack gave the River Rats a 44-24 lead with 1:05 left in the third quarter.
A steal and layup by Lewis turned into a three-point play and a 47-26 Huron lead to end the third quarter.
Arthur Caldwell’s dunk made it 51-30 early in the fourth quarter. Caldwell’s three-point play made it 56-33 with 5:42 left in the game. A triple by Fred Ezenyilimba gave the River Rats a 59-33 lead. And a triple by Aayush Unadkat made it 63-34.
