Girls Basketball: Pioneers’ comeback falls short against Saline

 

The Pioneer girls’ basketball team opened up SEC Red Division action Friday night with a hard-fought 55-48 loss to visiting Saline.

Pioneer never led in the contest but charged back in the second half cutting the lead to three before running out of steam. The Hornets led 19-10 after the first quarter and 31-16 at halftime.

Pioneer outscored Saline 13-8 in the third quarter and 17-16 in the fourth quarter.

Asaria Turman led Pioneer with 14 points and Corine Burgard had 12 points.

Felicia Stewart, making her varsity debut, had nine points. Whitney Gallagher scored eight for the Pioneers.
