The Pioneer boys’ basketball team turned a big second quarter into their second straight win as the Pioneers bounced visiting Bedford 70-64 on Tuesday night.
The Pioneers improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SEC Red.
After scoring just 41 points on Friday in an overtime win at Saline, the Pioneers offense returned with a vengeance against the Kicking Mules. Despite falling behind 18-14 in the first quarter, the Pioneers outscored Bedford 24-12 in the second quarter for a 38-30 lead – almost equaling their total (with overtime) against Saline.
Bedford heated up from three-point range in the second half and took the lead late in the fourth quarter. After battling back and forth with the Kicking Mules, the Pioneers came up with key defensive stops when it mattered late led by senior Alex Cunningham and junior Kasean Pryor.
Junior point guard Drew Lowder led the offensive attack with a game-high 33 points. Pryor added 18 points and also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Pioneer will get some time off for the holidays before facing Detroit Martin Luther King at the Washtenaw County Challenge (at Lincoln High School) Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.
