Girls Basketball: Pioneers hang tough before falling to undefeated St. Ignace


The Pioneer girls’ basketball team ended 2017 with a 50-35 loss to undefeated St. Ignace at the Motor City Roundball Classic. The contest against top-notch competition was certainly a great experience for the young Pioneers.

Asaria Turman led Pioneer with 10 points. Ilena Garett and Whitney Gallagher each scored seven in the loss.

St. Ignace jumped out quickly and took a 15-9 lead after the first quarter. But the Pioneers played them even (7-7) in the second quarter and only trailed 22-16 at halftime.

The two teams played even (13-13) again in the third quarter. But St. Ignace outscored the Pioneers 15-6 in the final quarter to put the game away.
Pioneer heads to 2018 with a 3-4 record.
