Boys Basketball: Pioneer’s comeback falls short against Ypsilanti

 

The Pioneer boys’ basketball team made a run but it wasn’t enough to cross the finish line first against state-ranked Ypsilanti on Tuesday night. Pioneer trimmed the lead to 58-55 with 1 minute left to play but the visiting Grizzlies put the game away with a 64-55 victory.

Ypsilanti jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 34-21 at halftime. The two teams played to a 12-12 draw in the third quarter. Pioneer outscored Ypsilanti 22-18 in the fourth quarter.

Ypsilanti outrebounded Pioneer 19-17.

Jacob Williams had a big game for the Pioneers. The senior made 6 of 10 shots from the floor and 6 of 8 free throws for 18 points. He also had three rebounds.

Junior Alex Cunningham had 10 points, Koebe Moore had eight points and Jack Fitzgerald and Mac VanRenterghem each scored seven.

The Pioneers host Saline on Friday.
