Heading into March, crime ramped up in Dexter and Scio Township. Over the course of the last two weeks, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department was busier than in the beginning of the year.
Vehicles were a target of choice as of late.
All four tires and rims were taken off and stolen from a car at a dealership at the 500 block of Auto Mall Dr., on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. No other damage was inflicted on this vehicle and no other cars were hit. There is currently no suspect.
On Monday, Feb. 26, at 3:20 a.m., two friends got into an argument at the 300 block of Pear Tree Ln., and it resulted in a damaged vehicle. The suspect, a 28-year-old male from Ypsilanti, put a large dent in the side of his friend’s car after the fight.
In the week prior, a vehicle was stolen from a driveway at the 2200 block of Melbourne Ave., on Friday, Feb. 16, at 10:40 p.m. The victim started his car to warm it up, went inside and then returned to an empty driveway. As of publish, the vehicle had not been located and no suspect identified.
Another act of vehicle vandalism occurred at the 1000 block of Rabbit Run Cir., on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 8 a.m. The victim went outside to put something in his car and found a hole in the trunk. At this point, it is unknown how the damage was done or who did it.
Two sex crimes were reported last week. One occurred in Scio Township on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 2:30 a.m., at the 2100 block of E. Delhi Rd., and the other in Dexter on Friday, Feb. 23, at 2:18 a.m., at the 1400 block of Baker Rd. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department will not release any further information regarding these incidents.
A couple cases of larceny took place as well.
Last Wednesday, Feb. 21, a package was delivered to the 1300 block of Coventry Square Dr. in the morning. It was left on the porch, but prior to the victim returning home to retrieve it, it disappeared. There is currently no suspect and the package’s whereabouts are unknown.
A cell phone was forgotten, and then allegedly stolen, at a theater at the 3600 block of Jackson Rd., in the evening on Sunday, Feb. 25. After realizing the phone was gone, the victim went back to the theatre to find it, but it vanished.
Finally, five assaults were reported within the last two weeks in Dexter and Scio Township.
A juvenile from Ann Arbor is the suspect in an assault that took place on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the 4200 block of Jackson Rd. at 4:36 p.m. No injuries were inflicted and no arrest was made.
Two domestic assaults were reported on Friday, Feb. 23. The first occurred at 3:04 p.m. at the 8100 block of Trail Rdg. A 51-year-old female from Dexter is the suspected attacker and she was arrested. Then, at 7:11 p.m., another assault, involving a 39-year-old male from Ann Arbor, transpired at the 2700 block of Sagebrush Cir., but he was not arrested. No injuries resulted from either of these incidents.
A 26-year-old male from Ann Arbor is the accused attacker in a domestic assault that took place on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 9:17 p.m., at the 3900 block of Miller Rd. He left his victim with no injuries, but was arrested.
At the 1000 block of Rabbit Run Cir., a juvenile was accused of domestic assault on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 10:27 p.m., however, he was not arrested.
