Pioneer’s scorecard last year was impressive from tee to green. For the first time since 2009, the Pioneers reached the D-1 State Tournament where they placed a respectable eighth overall.
Pioneer also went 10-1 in SEC play and took third at the league tournament.
Now in his third year as head coach, Dane Dresch has a lineup card with talent and experience as they will look to move up on the leaderboard in both league play and the state tournament.
“We return everyone from the state tournament,” said Dresch. “Our strengths are experience and dedication. We have a small, close knit team that supports and pushes one another. We are looking to build upon last year’s success.”
Sophomore Xavier Lee who carded a team-best 160 at last year’s state finals is back after an amazing freshman season. Sophomores Colin Flanders and Ed Shen both shot 162 at last year’s state finals in their first seasons on varsity.
Senior captain Kailas Whitelocke shot a 164 last year at states and returns. Both juniors Davis DeRosia and Lewie Fichera played a round at the state finals last year and return this year.
Senior Tim Markel is one of the team’s top newcomers.
Pioneer opens the season April 13 at the Lincoln Splitter/Splitter.
