DCB’s free Spring concert to be held Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m.
DEXTER, Mich., April 16, 2018— Dexter Community Band closes out its 2017-18 season on a whimsical note.
The band’s spring concert on April 29 features everything from Tchaikovsky to Jupiter to Dennis the Menace.
Under the direction of Conductor William Gourley, the music selection includes:
- Capriccio Italien, an orchestral fantasy by Peter Tchaikovsky inspired by Italian folk tunes;
- Mambo Greats, a compilation of classic mambo hits from Tito Puente, Perez Prado and Pablo Beltran Ruiz, arranged by Stephen Bulla;
- Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity, from Gustav Holst’s The Planets;
- Tony’s favourite Cartoons,a rollicking medley of familiar themes from Looney Tunes to Animaniacs to The Simpsons;
The concert will also feature vocal soloist Abbey Herrman singing Rodgers and Hart’sBlue MoonandOver the Rainbowfrom The Wizard of Oz. Abbey also plays saxophone with the band.
The 3 p.m. event, which is free to the public, will be held at the Center for Performing Arts in Dexter High School, 2200 North Parker Road, Dexter.
Founded in 1982, theDexter Community Bandis comprised of volunteer musicians from the local area. A registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the band performs professional-level symphonic wind music at four free concerts a year. There are also several free “Evening of Ensembles” featuring small groups from the band.
