Start Date for Dexter-A2 Road Construction Changes

The City of Dexter announces change in start date for Dexter – Ann Arbor Rd work, a controlled burn in Mill Creek Park, and Arbor Day seedling distribution:

The tentative start date for the Dexter Ann Arbor Road project has been changed to Monday, May 7, 2018. The Washtenaw County Road Commission will be managing the project to pulverize and resurface Dexter-Ann Arbor Road from Zeeb to Dan Hoey/Ryan Dr. The project should take approximately four weeks to complete. Dexter-Ann Arbor Road will be closed to thru traffic during the project. Residents of Dexter Crossing and Victoria Condos will need to use the subdivision entrance off of Dan Hoey.

Dexter-Ann Arbor Road will be re-opened prior to the closure of Baker Road for the roundabout project. The roundabout project is scheduled to start in mid-June and will require a full closure of Baker as work is performed at the Dan Hoey and Shield intersections. A public meeting on the roundabout project will be scheduled once the contractor is selected this spring.

Controlled Burn in Mill Creek Park Rain Gardens

A controlled burn is scheduled for tomorrow in the two Mill Creek Park rain gardens along Jeffords.

Arbor Day

An Arbor Day Celebration will be held on April 27, 2018 to celebrate the benefits of trees, including how trees can reduce erosion of topsoil by wind and water, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life-giving oxygen, provide habitat for wildlife, and cut heating and cooling costs. Trees are also beneficial because they are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and help beautify and give our community character.

Volunteers will be distributing free seedlings at the following times and locations:

10:00 am – noon – Dexter District Library (3255 Alpine Street)
11:00 am – noon – Clock Plaza (corner of Broad & Main Streets; weather permitting)
1:00 – 3:00 pm – Dexter Mill (3515 Central St)

The City of Dexter is one of 111 Michigan communities recognized by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Arbor Day Foundation for its community forestry efforts. The City of Dexter has been a proud Tree City USA member since 2008.  Tree City USA is a nationwide Arbor Day Foundation program that promotes proper tree care and management in urban areas and calls attention to the economic, health and aesthetic benefits that trees offer.
