Girls Track & Field: Pioneer runs away with April Showers Relays title


The Pioneer girls’ track and field team headed next door to Dexter on Saturday to participate in the 16th annual April Showers Relays. The Pioneer did more than just compete as the Pioneers ran away with first-place honors in a meet that featured 23 teams from Michigan and Ohio.

Pioneer finished with 106 points, well ahead of second-place Dakota (66 points). Saline was third with 64 followed by Clarkston (61.5) and Grand Blanc (58).

Pioneer’s B team finished 11th with 17 points.

The Pioneers won three relays: 4×100 (51.32), 1600 Sprint Medley Relay (4:22.82), and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (1:11.55).

They also finished second in six relays: 4×200 (1:48.79), 4×400 (4:10.42), 4×800 (9:35.23), 4000 Distance Medley Relay (12:30.07), long Jump Relay (30’6.75″), and the B team 1600 Sprint Medley Relay (4:33.11).

The time in the Distance Medley Relay was a new school record. Members of the team were Libby Kos (1200), Justice Jackson (400), Sophy Cunningham (800), and Anne Forsyth (1600).

In addition, three relay teams finished third – 800 Sprint Medley Relay (1:56.18), 900 Intermediate Hurdle Relay (2:312.89), and the pole vault relay (16’6″).

Individually, Forsyth won the 1600 and Libby Kos won the JV 1600.

The next meet is a dual meet with Monroe at Pioneer on Tuesday, April 24.
