The Skyline baseball team split a doubleheader on Monday with SEC foe Bedford. The Eagles took the first game 8-2 but dropped the nightcap 8-1.
In the opener, the Eagles banged out 12 hits. They took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and added three more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth for a 5-0 lead. Skyline added three more in the sixth before Bedford got on the board with two in the bottom of the inning.
Aidan Stead singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run to make it 1-0 in the second.
In the sixth, Nikko Siegfried and Darryn Davis drove in runs for Skyline.
Eamon Horwedel, Sean Haddlesey, Alex Collier and Stead had two hits apiece in the win.
Horwedel picked up the win on the mound. He surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking zero.
In the second game, the Eagles’ offense struggled against Bedford.
In the first inning, Davis doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. But Bedford knotted the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
Bedford scored one run in the third inning and broke it open with six runs in the sixth inning.
Davis took the loss for Skyline. The senior surrendered eight runs on seven hits over five and a third innings, striking out three.
Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense.
