Game Recap: Hard-hitting Dreadnaughts Take Two from Pioneer

The Dexter Dreadnaughts made a statement in Ann Arbor last Wednesday – they can hit. They beat Pioneer twice, 13-1 and 6-0, with a combined 19 runs and 19 hits between the two games.

Olivia Mellifont led the Dreadnaughts with five hits, five RBI and four runs scored. In game two, she hit two triples and a homerun. Kylee Niswonger also had a great night with two walks and a run scored in game one and two hits and a run scored in the second game. Jenna Wagenschutz totaled three hits and three runs scored and Alexis Haley had three hits, one RBI and scored three times against the Pioneers.

In the opener, Dexter’s Kristy Maitland and Lillie Robeson each contributed a hit and a RBI. Starting pitcher Samantha Sutton struck out 10 in the victory. Game two’s pitcher, Maddy Stroia, captured six strikeouts and helped herself at the plate with a homerun.

Lizzie Kuras scored the Pioneers only run for the evening on a double from Sarina Zajchowski. In the second game, Pioneer had five hits total with one each from Mimi Maixner, Alina Mankowski, Ella Roberts, Cody Ross and Zajchowski. Maixner had eight strikeouts in the 6-0 loss.
