SRSLY Dexter Welcomes New Coalition Director and Program Coordinator

SRSLY Dexter was formed in 2012 to prevent destructive behavior in Dexter area youth.

SRSLY Dexter announced the hiring of two new staff members: Alyssa Tumolo as coalition director and Julia Porter as program coordinator.

Alyssa Tumolo

“Alyssa and Julia possess the talent, drive, and experience that it takes to reach our community’s youth,” says Reiley Curran, regional director of the SRSLY Coalition. “I am confident that our Dexter coalition will continue to thrive under their direction.”

As Coalition Director, Tumolo will focus on the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of SRSLY Dexter activities and events. She will also recruit and train SRSLY Dexter volunteers and build valuable relationships with community stakeholders.

Tumolo earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University. She has spent the last several years working with at-risk youth, empowering them to make healthy choices and get involved in their communities.

“At Ferris State, I spent time learning about different career paths and realized that working with youth was my passion,” Tumolo says. “SRSLY Dexter is the perfect place for me to continue doing what I love. Dexter is an amazing, vibrant community that I am so excited to join.”

Tumolo lives in Ann Arbor with her husband, two children, and two dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, reading, and spending time with family.

Porter’s role as program coordinator includes assisting Tumolo with the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of SRSLY activities and events.

Julia Porter

Porter earned her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Michigan State University, with minors in Health Promotion and Peace and Justice Studies. She was also active in the Student Health Advisory Council.

Porter’s educational background was one of the reasons she was so interested in working with SRSLY. She also had personal experience with SRSLY Chelsea from 7th through 12th grade as part of the Youth Steering Committee, as a YES Program participant, and during her senior year of high school she did an independent study and internship with the SRSLY program.

“SRSLY was such an influential part of my life growing up,” Porter says. “SRSLY is what led to my interest in health promotion in college. I’m excited to have this opportunity to provide that same experience to youth in Dexter.”

Porter, a local resident loves to travel. To date, she has visited 11 countries.
