The Ann Arbor Public Schools is pleased to announce that Huron High School has received authorization as an International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP) World School.
With the addition of the Career-related Programme at Huron, the Ann Arbor Public Schools is the first pathway of schools in North America to offer the full International Baccalaureate education continuum that includes all four IB programs of international education from PK – 12th grade, including:
- Primary Years Programme (Grades PK-5),
- Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10),
- Diploma Years Programme (Grades 11-12), and the
- Career-related Programme.
Huron High School is the only high school in Michigan and one of only 97 schools in the United States (107 in the Western Hemisphere) to offer all three high school programs, Middle Years, Diploma, and the Career-related Programmes.
Huron High School offers a wide array of 27 Diploma Programme courses, the most robust set of DP offerings in Michigan. The AAPS is proud to offer this distinguished and rare educational opportunity to serve our students in Ann Arbor and across southeast Michigan.
With the addition of the Career-related Programme, AAPS students will also be able to connect a career passion – developing a career focus study in Automotive, Business, or Engineering during their high school education experience, graduating with an IB Career-related Programme certificate that will support them in next steps in college or directly into a career.
The Ann Arbor Public Schools IB Programme is inclusive by design, and all students attending Mitchell (grades PK-5), Scarlett (grades 6-8), and Huron (grades 9-12) will benefit from participating in this exceptional programming. It is anticipated that Huron High School will continue to add career focus areas to the Career-related Programme over the coming year.
International Baccalaureate, a program frequently requested over previous years by Ann Arbor area parents, students, and community members, is a widely recognized course of study in which students participate in rich inquiry learning, achieve proficiency in World Language beginning in Kindergarten, and leverage their learning in service to the world, both locally and globally. The IB Middle Years Programme requires schools meet high expectations with regard to exceptional teaching and learning practices.
The teachers, administrators, and larger community are commended for their hard work to support the development of the International Baccalaureate at Mitchell, Scarlett and Huron.
