During Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we want to stress the importance of using sunscreen to protect your skin. Before going outdoors, use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Here are 3 tips from the American Cancer Society® to apply your sunscreen properly:
Apply the Right Amount
To ensure that you are applying the right amount of sunscreen follow the directions on the label. Ideally, about 1 ounce of sunscreen should be used.
Pay Attention to Exposed Skin
When putting on sunscreen, pay close attention to your face, ears, neck, arms, and any other areas not covered by clothing. Apply your sunscreen before insect repellent or makeup.
Reapply Every 2 Hours
To maintain protection from the sun, reapply your sunscreen every two hours.
