Beginning June 18th Dexter Community Schools will begin construction on Dan Hoey Road adding turn lanes to increase safer entry onto the school campus. The parking lots will also be reconfigured at this time as part of the new elementary school construction.
In a letter to area residents, Dexter Community Schools Superintendent states, “The improvements to Dan Hoey Road are a result of recommendations from traffic engineers with significant input from the City of Dexter and other authorities.”
This roadwork will occur at the same time the Washtenaw County Road Commission and City of Dexter closer Baker Road for the roundabout constructions at the intersections of Day Hoey Road and Shield Road.
During the construction, Dan Hoey Road will remain open between the Mill Creek Middle School south entrance and the bus loop at Cornerstone Elementary. The road will be reduced to one lane during the day while construction is ongoing with occasional traffic stoppages to allow for certain tasks.
Important details:
- Granger Construction, not Washtenaw County Road Commission, is doing the construction. Granger is also building the new elementary school.
- Daily working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
- As part of their mandatory Safety Orientation Program, Granger instructs all workers to be considerate and to perform work as if they were residents of the affected neighborhoods.
- If you have children, please remind them and their friends to keep their distance from the jobsite. The crosswalk from Dongara Drive of Walkabout Creek to the DCS campus will remain open at all times.
