Candidate Statement: Sue Shink for County Commissioner

There are three Democratic candidates competing in the Aug. 7 primary for a chance at an open seat for County Commissioner in November’s election for District 2 which includes Webster, Salem, Superior, Northfield and Ann Arbor townships as well as part of Ann Arbor.

Here is Sue Shink’s statement:

“Hello!  My name is Sue Shink. I am running for County Commissioner in District 2 because I love this community.

“Every time I talk about why I am running, I start the same way because it’s true. Washtenaw County is a truly special place, with access to the best of just about everything. In District 2, we enjoy open spaces, small farms, tree-lined roads, beautiful vistas and wildlife; all while living near Ann Arbor, Brighton and Ypsilanti with all they have to offer.

“I have worked for many years to protect the quality of life out here. As a Northfield Township Trustee from 2004 to 2008, I helped author a master plan and ordinances to direct development to areas with infrastructure and away from the rural areas. I have served on the Board of the Huron River Watershed Council and currently chair the Washtenaw County Agricultural Lands Preservation Advisory Committee (ALPAC). In addition, I chair the Land Preservation Committee in Northfield Township. The Sierra Club Michigan Chapter and Huron Valley Group endorse me because I invest in our land.

“I also volunteer with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center representing immigrants becoming citizens, including women who have been abused by their spouses, and with Detroit Horse Power helping kids learn the skills they need to succeed through interaction with horses.  The Huron Valley Area Labor Federation endorses me because I invest in our people.

“Our community is my priority.  Over the last few months I have been going door-to-door to meet residents and hear what is important to you so that I can represent you.  I will serve as your county commissioner with honesty and integrity.  If you would like to learn more about me, you might look at my website, https://VoteSueShink.com. Vote Sue Shink August 7th!”
