Happenings: This weekend in Ann Arbor parks

It’s our Birthday
Celebrate the Market’s 99th birthday with us this Saturday, Aug. 4. The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will be hosting an “Instrument Petting Zoo” for kids to try different types of instruments from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. It’s the mid-summer and we have plenty to offer including sweet corn, peaches, peppers, tomatoes, flowers, artisan products and more. Free parking at the Ann and Ashley structure on Saturdays, and in the Market lot on Wednesdays. The market runs Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. 315 Detroit St.

Natural Area Preservation Stewardship Workday
Saturday, Aug. 4, Black Pond Woods Nature Area from 9 a.m.-noon. Black Pond Woods is an oak-hickory forest with beautiful wildflowers in the under story. These woods provide habitat for many birds, frogs, and salamanders. Help us keep this habitat healthy by pulling exotic invasive species such as Japanese hedge parsley. Meet on Tibbits Court, off of Pontiac Trail. Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. All participants must complete a release form, and all minors should be accompanied by a guardian. Tools, snacks, and know-how provided.

Splash Day
Saturday, Aug. 4, 2-4 p.m. at Buhr Park Pool. “Sports-themed” games, music, prizes and more! Hosted by GIVE 365. Stop by for a round of lightning, a Rubber Ducky relay race, drip-drip-DRENCH and popsicles! All activities and fun are included with regular pool admission. 2751 Packard Rd.

Concerts in the Park
Join us for a free music series in Burns Park adjacent to the Ann Arbor Senior Center on Sunday, Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. featuring Matt Watroba. We’re also hosting a food drive to support the Community Action Network food pantry. Non-perishable items can be donated at the concert and/or during regular business hours at the senior center (1320 Baldwin Ave.)

Groove
Unite, dance, and be yourself during this fun group dance experience that nurtures the mind, body and soul. No experience required and the program is free. Monday, Aug. 6 and 13 from 7-8 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Senior Center (1320 Baldwin Ave).
