The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop has been turning donations into cash to help support the outstanding students who have walked the halls of the Ann Arbor Public Schools for the past 25 years. But the PTO Thrift Shop has other creative ways to help raise money for the local schools.
“Fundraising with the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop involves promotional activities in support of the shop — and most are easy to do,” says Store Manager Paulette Brown. “Each of the fundraising opportunities available for Ann Arbor Public School groups help the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop by bringing in donations, encouraging shopping, and providing other valuable support. Attracting more shoppers means higher profits that we can distribute to the schools!”
One of the annual events to help raise money and awareness is the popular Veteran’s Day Cash Raffle Fundraiser. This raffle fundraiser is a WIN-WIN for AAPS groups!
The 2018 Veteran’s Day Raffle is under way with the drawing at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. The first prize is $1,000 in cash – yeah, that’s a pretty awesome prize. There are two second-place prizes ($500 each), eight third-place prizes ($250 each) plus three $100 gift certificates to the A2 PTO Thrift Shop.
One hundred percent of ticket sales supports the Ann Arbor Public School’s PTO, clubs, sports teams and other school-affiliated groups selling the tickets. The tickets are just $5 and the program is a great way for school organizations to raise money. This fundraising opportunity is unlimited! Groups can always sign out more tickets when they sell all those in their original packet!
“We provide these opportunities to teams, clubs and groups at all grade levels of Ann Arbor Public Schools as a way to distribute our operating profits,” Brown says. “Our profits are based on sales and fundraising income as well as operating costs over the course of each school year. When you fundraise with us, your group promotes our shop and helps grow our community profile within your school community. That means more profits to be able to distribute to the schools!”
Tickets for the raffle are printed for pre-sale — and will be packaged and ready to be picked up by groups’ adult representatives on August 15th. There will be $4,000 in prizes awarded.
Ticket buyers must be at least 18 years of age to purchase per Michigan Gaming Law. The payout for this fundraising activity must occur after the prize draw and all raffle financial reports have been completed. Ticket packets, which include all the information you need, will be available at the shop at our Customer Service Desk.

The PTO provides AAPS groups the following to make this fundraiser a success: printed tickets in a customized packet with a record sheet; sales opportunities in the shop lobby; flyers to distribute electronically and/or print for backpack mail; a radio advertising campaign on annarbors107one; and, they will wrap it all up on the drawing date with special Veteran’s Day savings in the shop.
Since 1993, the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop has been supporting Ann Arbor Public Schools students, contributing more than $1.4 million over the last eight years alone to the Ann Arbor Public Schools. The shop turns community donated items into direct contributions to the parent teacher organizations (PTOs) in order to help fund field trips, classroom enrichment activities, clubs, and sports.
