The Dexter volleyball team has a lot of new faces this year including the head coach. Liz Palmer replaces the popular D’Ann Dunn, who left the new coach plenty of talent to work with in the transition year.
“All six of our seniors are playing offensive positions and our offense is strong and experienced,” says Palmer, who brings varsity coaching experience in Ohio with her to Dexter. “The keys to success are the serve and pass game and keeping rallies alive defensively.”
Dexter recently played in the Legacy Tournament and split sets with Brighton, lost two to Saline, won two against Richmond, beat Plymouth in two sets, and lost to South Lyon in two sets.
The Dreadnaughts went an impressive 32-12-1 last year before losing to Skyline in the Districts. Back from that team include seniors Taylor Venuto, OH/MH; Brooklyn Brown, OH; and Abby Herman, MH. Venuto and Brown are the team captains.
Top newcomers include sophomore Livvy Mellifont, DS; junior Kaitlin Delacy, DS; freshman Courtney Sharples, DS; and sophomore Eleanor King, setter.
“Our defense/passing is young,” Palmer says. “We have a ton of talent but inexperienced at this high level.”
The Dreads play their home opener at 7 p.m., Aug. 27 at home against Lincoln.
