PowerArt! Semi-finalists announced; online voting is open

 

The Arts Alliance, with support from the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (AADDA) and in cooperation with the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission (AAPAC), announces the PowerArt! 2018 semi-final artworks. PowerArt! is a project to install creative, vinyl printed art reproductions on traffic boxes in downtown Ann Arbor. To date, 25 PowerArt! boxes have been installed in the Ann Arbor Downtown Development District. Fun and whimsical the wrapped traffic boxes are popular with townies, visitors and artists.

The first round of the PowerArt! 2018 competition had 108 artworks submitted by 41 local Washtenaw County-based artists. With a commitment to artistic quality and including the public in its public art and design projects, The Arts Alliance implemented a two-step selection process. A jury of six that included local art professionals, business owners and community leaders selected the 12 artworks below for public vote.

The second step in the selection process involves the public in the selection of the eight (8) finalists through an online community vote. The public online voting is open now and remains open through September 3, 2018. The public may vote for the top eight at https://goo.gl/forms/JbmIoARr0K7zoNWy2. Only one vote per email address is allowed. The eight PowerArt! 2018 finalists will be announced he week of September 3, 2018.

The PowerArt! 2018 project received a $15,000 Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs grant that requires a 1:1 donation match from individuals, businesses and other sources. To sponsor a PowerArt! box or make a donation, click here or call 734-213-2733.
