Football: Dreadnaughts bounce back with convincing win over Adrian (updated)

Phil Jacobs won a lot of football games in that stadium in Adrian when he was the head coach of the Maples. He won another one on Friday, but this time he was on the other sidelines with a team that really needed this one to keep the momentum going during their drive to the postseason.

While the Maples came into the game 0-4 and fell behind early, they put up an impressive fight in the second half. But the Dreadnaughts put up too many points for Adrian to overcome in a 42-30 win.

Dexter, which came into the season looking for its first win since 2013, improved to 3-2 – halfway to securing a postseason spot. Dexter has four games left on the schedule – Tecumseh (2-3), Pinckney (1-4), Lincoln (4-1) and Whitehall (3-2).

Dexter quarterback Colin Parachek may be only a sophomore but he put the team on his back against Adrian. Parachek threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the win. He finished 12 of 25 passing for 308 yards. He also had 35 yards rushing.

But Parachek certainly got plenty of help from his Dexter teammates.

Antwan Ficklen continued his incredible season. The junior receiver racked up 182 yards receiving on six catches and scored three touchdowns, including a 71-yard scoring play from Parachek.

Andy Durand, a senior WR, had three catches for 73 yards including a 45-yard grab and run.

On the ground, Mason Loudermilk had 12 carries for 57 yards and Jordan Watson carried the ball five times for 50 yards.

The Dreadnaughts led 28-6 at halftime.

The Maples cut the deficit to 35-22 in the fourth quarter before both teams put up touchdowns in the final few minutes of the game.

Dexter finished with 451 yards of total offense, including 308 through the air.

Defensively, the Dreads had another solid game, especially in the first half. The defense was led by Marcus Young with five tackles, three assists and a sack along with Jordan Watson with four tackles, eight assists and a sack. He led the team with three tackles for loss.

Charles Evan Chapell had four tackles and four assists; David Kreske had three tackles and three assists; Daniel Troncalli had two tackles and two assists; and Nathan Norris had two tackles, three assists and a sack.
