For more than a decade, the Pioneer girls’ golf team has dominated play in the annual Ann Arbor High School golf tournament – that is until Wednesday.
Skyline fired a team score of 373 to beat Pioneer by five strokes to win the AAHS at Barton Hills Country Club.
It was the first time in school history the Eagles have won the tournament, which features the three public schools along with Father Gabriel Richard and Greenhills. This also marks the school’s first tournament win in program history which began in 2011.
“Every stroke mattered,” said Skyline Coach Ashley Mantha. “It was a tough course but the girls grindded it out.”
Skyline also scored two medalists as Nikki Lama fired an 88 and Adie Maki carded an 89. The rest of the Skyline scorecard featured Addy Meadows (97), Cammi Tirico (99), Grace Hescheles (103) and Alison Marshall (108).
Pioneer was led by Amaya Melendez, who fired an impressive 83. Claire Middleton (96), Katie Liu (99), Sooah Jung (100), Jillian Giardano (107) and Erica Liu (110) completed Pioneer’s scorecard on the day.
Huron had two players tee it up. Karli Messer shot a 101 and Joann Cho fired a 119.
Father Gabriel Richard fired a team score of 442.
Greenhills only had three players on its scorecard.
