Swimming: Local teams splash it up at annual MISCA meet


The local swimming teams headed to Eastern Michigan University on Saturday to compete in the annual MISCA meet. High school coaches use the meet for different reasons so it’s not exactly a preview of the state finals but there were still plenty of noteworthy performances turned in by local swimmers.

In the 200 medley relay, Pioneer splashed to third place as the team of Quoia Sam, Lindsay Orringer-Hau, Amelia Weyhing and Lily Cramer touched in 1 minute, 49.15 seconds. The Skyline team of Madison Deininger, Claire Kozma, Emma Pettigrew and Ella Sadler finished 19th in 1:54.61.

Skyline junior Allison Haak was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.44. Pioneer senior Katie Capelli was ninth in 1:56.58 and freshman teammate Vivian VanRenterghem was 10th in 1:57.32. Pioneer freshman Autumn Bullinger was 16th in 1:57.98 and Skyline senior Ella Sadler was 18th in 1:58.58.

Freshman Hannah Jyawook won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.74. Huron’s Abbey Ketslakh was sixth in 2:11.40 and Pioneer’s Lily Cramer was 10th in 2:12.88. Pioneer sophomore Abby Mehraban was 20th in 2:14.49 while freshman teammate Edwina Jalet was 22nd in 2:15.01.

In the 50 freestyle, Skyline freshman Claire Kozma was 16th in 25.12. Huron sophomore Annaliese Streeter was 23rd in 25.22 and Pioneer senior Jenni Krzeczkowski was 26th in 25.38.

In the 100 fly, Pioneer’s Orringer-Hau was 19th in 1:01.01 and teammate Holly Pringle was 26th in 1:01.33.

Skyline junior Allison Haak grabbed the Eagles’ second individual first place when she touched first in the 100 free with a time of 52.05. VanRenterghem was 16th for Pioneer in 54.60, Pioneer freshman Weyhing was 21st in 54.74 and Kozma touched 24th for Skyline in 54.85.

Jyawook put on another impressive display for the Eagles as the freshman took second in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.47. Capelli had another strong swim for the Pioneers with her seventh-place finish in 5:10.00. Orringer-Hau was 13th in 5:15.94, Skyline freshman Gina Sadler was 19th in 5:18.99 and Pioneer’s Bullinger was 25th in 5:20.96.

Pioneer’s foursome of Krzeczkowski, Cramer, VanRenterghem and Weyhing took fifth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.83. Skyline’s team of Deininger, Sophia Kunisaki, Lock and Ella Sadler was 15th in 1:42.59.

Sam took eighth for Pioneer in the backstroke with a time of 1:00.15. Huron’s Emily Tran was 19th in 1:01.23.

In the breaststroke, Weyhing was eighth for Pioneer in 1:07.51. Lock was 30th for Skyline in 1:10.58.

Pioneer took fourth in the 400 free relay as the team of Orringer-Hau, Capelli, Jalet and VanRenterghem touched in 3:42.48.
