Football Roundup: Pioneer tops Ypsilanti; Skyline falls to Pinckney; FGR wins


The 2018 football season came to a close for the local teams on Friday night. Here is a look at how they fared.

Pinckney 35, Skyline 28
The Eagles headed into the final game of the season with an outside chance of making the playoffs for the first time in school history. But Skyline needed to a win and came up short against the Pirates. The Eagles finish the season with a 4-5 record.

Pioneer 11, Ypsilanti 8
The roller-coaster season ended on a high note for the Pioneers. They won three straight at one point before dropping four in a row. Their victory over the Grizzlies ended the streak and also ended Ypsilanti’s longshot at making the playoffs.

Flat Rock 38, Huron 22
It was another tough season or the River Rats who should some positive signs and played hard all season but couldn’t land one in the win column in 2018. It was Huron’s fourth consecutive winless season. The 22 points against the Rams were the most they scored all season.

Father Gabriel Richard 48, Pontiac 6
The Irish won their first game 2-0 because of a forfeit. They won their last game by scoring 48 points. After last year’s incredible run, the Irish lost their first five before the forfeit win over Detroit Universal Academy. They lost to Divine Child (21-7) and Cranbrook-Kingswood (42-7) before the season-ending win over Pontiac.

Whitehall 23, Dexter 13
For those following the Dreadnaughts, Dexter lost its final game of the season to Whitehall at home. But the Dreads will take their 6-3 record into the state playoffs for the first time in school history.
